International Children’s Day of Broadcasting 2010
All Rights, All Children!
Monday, 1 March, 2010: In conjunction with International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) on Sunday, 7th March 2010, ERA, MY FM, hitz.fm, THR Raaga and UNICEF are celebrating children and giving them the golden opportunity to ‘voice out’ through broadcasting! This is an international event by UNICEF, aimed at inspiring broadcasters around the world to create channels for more children in more circumstances to speak out and be heard. What better way to create awareness in their communities and influence decision-making, than by going on radio!
In this regard, ERA, MY FM, hitz.fm and THR Raaga, reaching out in all four main languages, are opening the doors to their studios to let young ones join them in counting down the charts, and rule the airwaves. The kids also play announcers and ask the ‘real’ announcers questions. Who knows, maybe the ‘real’ announcers can learn a few things from the kids!
Be sure to tune in to the children with our participating announcers Reza (ERA), Dina (ERA), Jack Lim (MY FM), Jin (hitz.fm) and Revathy (THR Raaga) on 6 and 7 March.

ERA
ERA announcers Reza and Dina can’t wait to welcome children that will enliven the ERA studio on the Carta 40 ERA this Saturday.
“Often times we hear people say that children are the precious generation, and that we need to take care of them as well as possible. In this respect, we need to reflect on whether what we have done this far is enough, not only to protect the children, but to provide a place and opportunity for them to learn and play. My experience as a kindergarten teacher in the past has also taught me that there is a lot that we can exemplify from the natural characteristics of a child that is cheerful and positive,” says Reza.
Dina adds, “Carta 40 ERA’s exclusive edition in conjunction with International Children’s Day of Broadcasting 2010 promises something fresh. We will hear how a child that we always assume doesn’t know much, actually has the potential to provide an interesting dimension to a radio programme. Who knows, maybe we can use their new ideas in the times to come!”.

MY FM
MY FM is proud to be a part of UNICEF’s initiative of supporting children’s rights through the “TUNE IN TO ME” programme, in conjunction with the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting 2010. To give the children the opportunity to express themselves through radio, what better way to express their excitement by counting down hit songs on the popular MY ASTRO Chartshow. Jack Lim is also on the hot seat for the children to interview and bombard with questions. Reversing the roles, hear them take on the airwaves and listen to what they have to say. Jack Lim of MY FM Breakfast Show is excited to embark on this project and exclaims, “The children are our future generation and we must take heed of their opinions and concerns. Having children of my own, I understand how important it is for them to grow up in a healthy environment where there is open discussions and positive feedbacks”.

hitz.fm
The hitz hot 20 chart show is the most awaited programme on hitz.fm on the weekends, arguably the most popular English chart show too! Anchor of the show, Jin, says it is only right that hitz.fm as the No. 1 hit station to give young Malaysians the opportunity to be heard.
“This weekend, we will let the kids take over the studio give them an early exposure to the world of radio broadcasting. Besides learning a thing or two, putting them in the limelight with also help the children build ambitions and self-confidence. I’m definitely very excited to see how everything will turn out - hopefully I can get my studio back after that!” says Jin, who looks forward to more interesting collaborations with UNICEF in the future.
