AMP Radio Networks + Finnovator = Digital Phenomenon, 22/04/2010
Get digitized!

Thursday, 22nd April 2010: AMP Radio Networks is proud to announce its exciting New Media plans with mobile services partner Finnovator, by introducing its ‘3G Radio Vision’. The enhanced 3G radio component enables listeners to watch more video content on the 3G mobile phone, and allows advertisers to extend their brands on the popular platform.

The relationship between the AMP and Finnovator started last year with AMP’s venture into 3G Video Calling. To date, AMP now has six active live video streaming services via the 3G Shortcode, and plans to expand it to all its other stations in 2010. These 3G video services are currently available on Maxis network, while DIGI 3G network will be connected in May, 2010. After a year of Ad Free access, AMP and Finnovator want to open up these opportunities to advertisers.

AMP’s Interactive Manager, Jayaram Nagaraj explains, “3G Radio Vision is exactly that - it provides a different touch point for users to get to their favorite radio station not just through audio, but video. This is achieved by the 3G mobile user video calling respective station’s 3G Shortcode. When a video call connection is established, the user can access the “Live Camera Feed”, “Video on Demand Services”, play games or even download ringtones. These 3G video call services grant users excellent user experience with no video streaming buffer irritation, very easy to use navigation environment and most of all, very low cost at merely 30 cents per minute.”

AMP has already built a user base of 60,000 unique visitors since these 3G video services started and the number is growing rapidly. AMP is expecting the 3G users on its 3G video platform to breach 100,000 by end of 2010, representing a critical mass audience base for advertisers to tap into.

“Through partnerships with other content providers such as music labels and movie studios, the radio stations can essentially generate “3G Music Chart Shows” where users can preview music videos and download their favourite ringtones. Movie lovers can preview latest movie trailers and participate in interactive movie games as well to win their share of complimentary movie tickets. This is also applicable to users who want to “see” their favorite announcers or watch live radio interviews, through the “Live Camera Feed”, Jayaram adds.

For Advertisers, this creates and opens up a new methodology way to engage their targeted customers via this innovative and interactive, video based media. Imagine now a clothing company could display their latest collection on the announcers for their audience to see. Another example would be for an automobile company to solicit for listeners to watch a “test drive” by their favorite announcers with an option for the user to be contacted for a test drive within the same system.

AMP’s Executive Director, Dato‘ Borhanuddin Osman exclaims, “These are products a radio station could never really sell before - but now, we can get our clients brand directly onto the most personal device in the market - the mobile phone, and via video of course. This undoubtedly further improves AMP’s radio experience and interaction with the listeners which is beyond conventional FM and audio reception”.

AMP Interactive is an arm of Airtime Management and Programming Sdn Bhd that is responsible for the development of all new media and technology within the company. It is responsible for the award winning iPhone radio application and the core development of other technologies as well.

Finnovator is a company that has supported AMP’s venture into 3G Video Calls via its 3G Video Call platform subsidiary Nano Media Technology, and is now assisting AMP deploying video based, creative and new methods of advertising on this unique platform.
